                             EMERGENCY  APPEAL

UPDATE FROM OHMATDYT:  At the time of the attack 627 patients were in the hospital, more than fifty were injured.  Two adults were killed.  (Earlier reports that 10 children were killed was data from across Ukraine, not specific to Ohmatdyt.)  Some 465 patients who were in the hospital for treatment were examined and temporarily sent home.  Ninety four with more serious conditions, including 8 of those injured in the attack, were transferred to other Kyiv hospitals.  The rescue operations are now over and the evacuation of children from Ohmatdyt is complete.   Now begins a difficult recovery process.  The toxicology department where children undergo dialysis, was totally destroyed. In the old surgical building (in which The Humanity Funds has a rehabilitation project in an early planning stage) almost all windows are broken.  Two surgical wards, the intensive care unit and the operating block were significantly damaged.  In the hospital's new building, 13 departments were damaged, 8 surgical and 5 oncological as well as two intensive care units, an operating unit.  A radiology and radiation therapy department were badly damaged. Ukraine's only oncology and hematology laboratory was also damaged.

The Humanity Funds has a long-standing partnership with Ohmatdyt Hospital having funded a therapy pool for child amputees and having just held a benefit concert in Seattle to assist the hospital's surgical wing.  Because of its ongoing relationship The Humanity Funds is well placed to provide emergency assistance as it has done in the past for Emergency Heating Points and Flood Relief when Russian forces destroyed the Kakhovka Dam. Given the magnitude of the destruction, funds will be carefully managed to ensure they are used where they are most needed in the difficult tasks ahead.

I  AM  LINA
My Story is the Story of Ukraine

On 17 March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Maria Lvova-Belova, Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights, charging them with the war crime of abducting and transporting Ukrainian Children to Russia.  The Humanity Funds is producing a film to document the plight of these children and those living under and fleeing brutal Russian occupation within Ukraine.

The film will feature Lina and two of her friends who will tell their stories of terror, intimidation, and eventual rescue. The film is being shot on-site with the cooperation of "Save Ukraine", the organization that rescued the children. It is being directed by renowned filmmakers Josh Taft, James Weitz and on-site Director Oleksiy Oliyar.
